"Re-Creating the Word: Painted Ceramics of the Prehistoric Southwest" by Dr. Barbara Moulard
Dr. Moulard discusses the expression of cultural belief systems and worldviews in the painted ceramic art of prehistoric Southwest peoples. For over 1000 years, the Hohokam, Mogollon and Ancestral Pueblo passed the "Word" from generation to generation in their ceramic art. Dr. Moulard surveys the painted cermaics of these major prehistoric cultures of the Southwest and explores how painted cermaics reflect a marriage between science, ideology and art.
Barbara Moulard is Adjunct Faculty Associate in the School of Art at ASU, where she teaches courses on the indigenous arts of the Southwest U.S., Mexico, Central America, and South America.
